Saint Michaels Medical Center Chilled Water System Modernization

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Size: 358 Bed Hospital
Highlights: Identified optimal strategy to upgrade the legacy chilled water system considering the hospital's need for redundancy, additional capacity, and wintertime operation. The design included (3) 500 ton screw chillers to replace (2) 700 ton centrifugal chillers, control valve replacement, pump VFD upgrades, modifications to cooling towers, upgrades to condensers and water pumps, chilled water and condenser systems upgrades, electrical system modifications, an ASHAE standard 15 compliant mechanical room ventilation modification, and facility-wide AHU modifications to SOO and freeze stats.
Challenges: 24/7 facility and 6-Month fast-tracked design plus construction schedule, which included pre-purchase specifications to make the expedited schedule possible.
